The Organisation

Established in 1998, the UNESCO Centre of Macau is run by the Macau Foundation, a public entity under the direct guardianship of the Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

PRINCIPAL PROJECTS OF THE ORGANISATION

The Centre aims to advocate and conduct training, cooperation and development programs in the areas of education, science and culture, in order to promote the territory's development in these areas. It also publishes artistic and literary works that may reflect the cultures and concerns of local, regional and international communities. Moreover, the Centre encourages the study of, and education about, local values, traditions, customs, legends, conventions and natural heritage. Co-operation projects are also conducted with local, regional and international authorities in fulfilling the objectives of UNESCO, especially in the area of youth affairs. The UNESCO Centre of Macau also functions to bolster liaisons with other UNESCO offices, and to organise debates, seminars, forums and conferences related to UNESCO or similar authorities. The Centre also promotes and coordinates the development of UNESCO's associated schools network in Macau.
