INVENTORY

The inventory of the intangible cultural heritage of Montseny is based on the Inventory of Ethnological Heritage of Montseny (IPEM). IPEM was developed between 1995 and 1999, by the Ethnological Museum of Montseny, "La Gabella", as part of research programs conducted by the Inventory of the Ethnological Heritage of Catalonia, of the Centre for the Promotion of Catalan Popular and Traditional Culture.

The inventory presented here cannot pretend to be an exhaustive compilation of all the intangible cultural heritage of Montseny, as it would be a daunting task, especially since we are at the beginning of the implementation of the Convention and that there is a general lack of methodological references. This inventory is the result of the field work carried-out during a whole year, by a team of three people (an anthropologist, a historian and an environmental specialist) who travelled the country, met with more than one hundred persons and took part in many activities in the covered area.

The inventory was made following several categories (established by the Convention) and subcategories (proposed in order to better seize the reality of the territory). Categories and sub-categories, are simply aimed to better understand the expressions of intangible cultural heritage. Therefore it may happen that the same item matches more than one subcategory or category.
