Welcome to the website of the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia – Unescocat. Our NGO has been working for more than twenty-five years to bring UNESCO to Catalonia and Catalonia to UNESCO and the United Nations.

In order to achieve this, our efforts are dedicated to “building bridges”. Society’s problem is not a lack of resources, but rather the need for these resources to be well coordinated, with shared projects which generate deep transformation at grassroots level. At Unescocat we are specialised in this. Through coordinating networks of people who work in the same areas, through the mediation we provide to areas of our towns and cities, through international conferences that develop reflection facilitating progress, the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia weaves together synergies and complicity to build the foundations for a true culture of peace.

However these efforts would be short-lived if we did not take action to “break boundaries”. We are aware that social progress in our four priority areas of work (sustainable development, social cohesion, national identity and promoting democracy) necessarily involves preventing negative social dynamics that prevent them. For this reason, we dedicate significant effort to providing training against all types of discrimination, we try out formula to bring democracy to educational institutions and we are deeply committed to promoting and defending linguistic diversity.

All the people who make up the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia – Unescocat are passionate about work that is constant and serious and helps our local and global environments become places of inclusion.
