Carles Torner

The Assembly of the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia has agreed to appoint Carles Torner Pifarré director of the institution. Carles Torner, who will serve from September 3, has been Director of the Department of Literature and Thought of the Ramon Llull Institute between 2004 and 2010 and currently holds a professorship at the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication of the Ramon Llull University. Torner chaired the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee of PEN International Writers Association and he was one of the architects of the Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights (Barcelona, 1996). He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Sciences from the University of Paris VIII, he is a poet and writer and has signed numerous interviews and articles on freedom of expression, human rights, language rights and intercultural dialogue.
