It is a project promoted by the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia that involves two UNESCO programmes: the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Programme on Man and the Biosphere. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage of the Montseny Biosphere Reserve.

For practical purposes, we aim to make an inventory of the traditions, customs, knowledge, techniques, festivals, etc.. which constitute the intangible cultural heritage of Montseny and identify the elements that can contribute to sustainable development of the territory. This task, in turn, will serve to define and execute local policies in these fields. This experience will also serve to draw up a methodology to perform this kind of inventory in other territories around the world.

The ultimate goals of this project are to contribute to:

• Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Montseny.
• Promoting sustainable economic development of Montseny.
• Strengthening social cohesion and link with territory.
