Linguistic diversity

Presentation Contacts Publications Activities Documents Links		Linguistic diversity as a tool for intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace. Languages are an identifying, cultural expression of people and have the knowledge and potential to contribute to a sustainable and peaceful world. Linguapax-Unescocat believes it is essential to increase awareness and promote the value of linguistic pluralism in order to promote social cohesion. For this reason, it focuses its activities in this area into an international network which originally began as part of a UNESCO programme and has had its headquarters in Barcelona since 2001. The Linguapax International Network is currently in a period of expansion. With offices in Mexico, Cameroon, Japan, New Caledonia, the United States and the Republic of Kalmykia of the Russian Federation, Linguapax aims to contribute to the preservation and promotion of linguistic diversity worldwide. Linguapax carries out advisory work for national and regional governments on the processes of developing linguistic policy. It participates in revitalisation and normalisation projects aimed at linguistic minority communities, organises expert meetings and develops educational material which promotes the values of linguistic and cultural diversity. Each year, on 21 February, to coincide with the International Mother Language Day, the International Linguapax Prize is awarded in recognition of the work carried out by linguists, researchers, teachers and other members of society to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education. Presentation Contacts Publications Activities Documents Links		Convocation of Linguapax Prizes Bases 1. The Linguapax Prizes are given annually by the Linguapax Institute 2. The prizes are given as recognition of dedication to linguists, researchers, teachers, or members of civil society who are outstanding because of their promotion of linguistic diversity or multilingual education. Special evaluation is give to the candidatures of people who have contributed to ameliorating the linguistic situation of a community or country. 3. The candidatures for the Linguapax Prizes should be sent to the secretary’s office of the Linguapax Institute and must include the candidate’s curriculum vitae. The candidatures will be treated with the maximum confidentiality. 4. The jury of the Linguapax Prizes is made up by members of the Linguapax Institute’s Assessment Committee. 5. The Linguapax prizes can be left unawarded. The decision of the jury will be unappealable. 6. The Linguapax Prizes will be announced annually on 21 February, the International Mother Language Day.
