Since the entry into force in 2006, of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, this area of culture, which has a primary role in maintaining the cultural diversity of humanity, is receiving increased attention from institutions, organizations and experts, as well as communities, groups and individuals who give continuity and validity to intangible expressions of their culture. One of the most important aspects for the future is the contribution of intangible cultural heritage to sustainable development, understood not only as an economic development that respects natural resources, but also as a human development that improves the living conditions of people as well as social and territorial cohesion.
This seminar aims to generate a debate to progress in the reciprocal benefits that intangible cultural heritage and sustainable development can provide, two key aspects to ensure the future of humanity.
