Coinciding with the International Youth Year, launched on 12 August 2010, UNESCO and Unescocat, with the collaboration of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR) and the Catalan Youth Agency, organized an International Meeting of Youth against Racism, from 10 to 13 September 2010, in Barcelona, with the aim of giving them training in combating racism, exchanging experiences and best practices and networking so as to continue to promote this fight. The programme of activities focused on three areas: to deepen knowledge about racism, identify and reflect on racist behavior and practices and propose actions to combat racism in the municipal area.
The young participants aged between 16 and 26 years, came from horizons as diverse as Germany, Belgium, Greece, France, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine and they already collaborate with associations and NGOs for the eradication of racism. The active methodology applied to working sessions combined spaces for exchange and debate, dynamic training through workshops, video forum, cultural activities, and even a treasure hunt.
