This project was initiated during the school year 1994-1995 by UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network and the World Heritage Centre in Paris.

The main objectives are to:

• Raise awareness among young people about the importance of cultural and natural sites in their own countries and abroad
• Carry out specific initiatives to encourage in young people a sense of responsibility about safeguarding their cultural and natural heritage
• Contribute to UNESCO's actions to promote the conservation of cultural and natural World Heritage sites.
