The European Coalition of Cities against Racism

In 2004, UNESCO promoted an international network of cities committed to improve their policies to fight racism, discrimination, xenophobia and to promote the values of diversity and equality.

The city of Nuremberg hosts the permanent secretariat of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR) that gathers over 100 municipalities of more than 20 countries. Member cities adopt a 10-Point-Plan-of-Action to monitor racism in the city, to establish a system of data collection and to develop appropriate indicators, among others. ECCAR's Steering Committee is made up of nearly 15 cities, along with scientific advisors and observers like the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia.

On of the most active members of ECCAR, and of its Steering Committee, is the city of Barcelona. Unescocat collaborates with its City Council to develop some of the projects included in the city's Action Plan, like the website barcelonacontraelracisme.cat, or workshops on racism and extreme right.
