Training of Amazigh Catalans to elaborate local development projects

The UNESCO Centre of Catalonia Unescocat wants to share its knowledge and experience in local and national projects related to the inclusion of groups of immigrants, and share its expertise in training of professionals and community groups in several different areas : cultural diversity, mediation, environment, heritage management and interreligious dialogue, with a view to develop trainings oriented to co-development.

The project "Training of Amazigh Catalans for the preparation of local development projects in the framework of UNESCO on human rights and cultural diversity" is the translation of the will and interest of the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia to promote co-development. The goal was to train people in Catalonia and on site who are involved in the promotion and defense of the Amazigh language and culture to introduce the UNESCO discourse on human rights and cultural diversity in the design of co-development and development projects and actions to be carried out both in Catalonia and on site.

To achieve the objective of the project, Unescocat's training centre, with the collaboration of Casa Amaziga and the support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation of the Government of Catalonia, organized the training course on "Tools and strategies for the preparation of local development projects in defense of the Amazigh issue in the framework of UNESCO on human rights and cultural diversity." This training, which was conducted during May and June 2011, was an area of joint work in which the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia offered its knowledge on UNESCO in order to facilitate the integration of UNESCO's speech and proposals in the justification and action plans of local development projects.

The result of this training is included in a working paper entitled "UNESCO's speech and the promotion of the Amazigh culture and language. Tool for the preparation of development projects." The purpose of this document, which exists in Catalan, Arabic and Berber versions, is to provide useful information on specific aspects included in relevant UNESCO documents that can help incorporate
UNESCO ideas on cultural diversity, linguistic and cultural heritage, in the justification of projects linked to the promotion and defense of the Amazigh culture and language, and help generate ideas and proposals of actions and projects for the promotion of the Amazigh culture and language.
